Nipah virus: Four more patients tested negative in Ernakulam

Earlier in the day, a Perambra native college student was admitted to the General Hospital with fever and headache.

Kochi: The blood samples of four more persons from the Ernakulam district were tested negative for Nipah virus infection while fresh samples of three patients admitted in various hospitals with fever were sent to the Manipal Virology Institute on Monday. "No confirmed cases have been reported from the district so far. We've sent three more samples for testing. Of them, two patients are primary suspected to be infected with Viral Encephalitis," said Dr N.K. Kuttappan, district medical officer.

The other sample was that of a 49-year Kadamattam native who died while in treatment at a private hospital after being found infected with Japanese Encephalitis. Earlier in the day, a Perambra native college student was admitted to the General Hospital with fever and headache. Another Kanjiramattom native too sought treatment in the hospital for fever. "The condition of both of them is satisfactory and they are being monitored closely," the officer said.
