Nipah virus: 400 persons under observation in Malappuram

The DMO asked the public to abstain from programmes including festivals, congregations and Iftar parties.

Malappuram: The district administration and health department have put around 400 persons under observation as a precautionary measure against Nipah spread. A statement issued by the District Medical Officer said that persons who were in contact with Nipah victims are under constant observation. The DMO Dr. K Sakeena asked hospital authorities to inform while patients with suspected Nihpa infection are referred to other hospitals.

“Patients should be shifted only with the assistance of trained health workers in specially arranged ambulances. Five special ambulances have been arranged for this purpose,” the statement said. The DMO asked the public to abstain from programmes including festivals, congregations and Iftar parties. The district collector Amit Meena has ordered cancelling all government functions till further notice. The collector also asked all educational institution to remain shut up to June 6.
