NGT refers mining plea to higher bench

Basava Prabhu Patil, appearing for the AP govt, alleged that the applicants were dragging the matter by filing various petitions.

Hyderabad: The National Green Tribunal bench at Delhi on Monday referred an application with regard to alleged illegal sand mining in Andhra Pradesh to the principal bench of the tribunal.

The NGT bench headed by Justice Rajvardhan Rathod while hearing the applications by Readiness for Empowerment through Legitimate Action (RELA) members K. Vara Lakshmi and Ganta Shivarama Krishna from Telangana state verified the earlier orders passed by the principal bench in the applications of the same petitioners with regard to alleged illegal sand mining in AP and TS.

The bench felt it would be appropriate to transfer the matter to the bench headed by Justice Javed Rahim since that bench heard the matter for quite a while.

Senior counsel Basava Prabhu Patil, appearing for the AP government, alleged that the applicants were dragging the matter by filing various petitions.

Counsel for the petitioner, K. Sravan Kumar said the principal bench reserved the orders in May last year but the orders were not delivered which is why they had to move the application.
