Garbage woes worsen in Tarnaka

Hyderabad: The hassles of garbage disposal have returned for the residents of Tarnaka immediately after the survey for Swachh Survekshan ranking was over. People living in Nagarjuna Nagar, Kimtee Colony and Snehapuri Colony claim that the situation has gone from bad to worse after the survey.

“The Swachh autos, which are supposed to collect garbage from every household on every alternative day, are not even coming once in 15 days. We have no choice but to dump the garbage in the open,” said A. Sravani, a resident of Snehapuri Colony.

The residents also complained that the sanitation staff, who used to keep the area clean until the survey was completed, have also disappeared. “The sanitation staff who had been sweeping the area used to segregate and dispose of the garbage. Now that they have gone and the meat and fish stalls are dumping waste in the open, the residents are in a difficult situation,” said G. Venkat Swamy, a resident of Nagarjuna Nagar.

She said that the population of stray dogs has also increased in the area. “It has become a breeding site for mosquitoes and stray dogs. Several incidents of dog bites have been reported in the area,” she added.
