BENGALURU: Panic prevailed in Billapur in Sarjapur Taluk on Monday when over 120 workers, most of them women, fell ill after drinking contaminated water at Silver Crest Garments Factory. The health officer in-charge has collected the water sample and sent it for tests.

The police said that workers started falling sick on Saturday and it continued even on Monday. On Saturday, around 50 workers who drank the polluted water fell sick. Over 15 women who vomited blood had to be admitted to hospitals in Attibele and Sarjapur.

On Monday nearly 100 workers fell ill and they were admitted to various hospitals. A tense situation prevailed near the factory, said Venkatesh, a relative of one of the patients admitted at an Anekal hospital. Workers suspect that a dead snake might have fallen into tank contaminating the drinking water.
