GHMC raids slaughter houses

The GHMC warned against illegal slaughter and directed people to procure the beef or other meat from authorised slaughterhouses.

Hyderabad: GHMC veterinary raided illegal slaughterhouses of beef, buffalo and goats and registered cases against owners.

A West Zone team during a raid near Sunnam Cheruvu in Circle 14A of Kukatpally seized 60 kg of beef and a buffalo that was hidden and registered case under Sections 530, 596 and 487 of the GHMC Act.

Officials said the animals were being slaughtered illegally in a residential area which could cause a public health hazard, unhygienic conditions and nuisance. “We have imposed a penalty of Rs 2,000,” an official said.

Another team seized 12 kg of meat, 10 sheep and goats from another person. The GHMC officials have registered a case and imposed Rs 1,000 penalty.

GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy told reporters that a vigil would be maintained in vulnerable areas where illegal slaughter is carried out.
