CBSE class 12 result: Chennai schools up scores this year
CHENNAI: Following the Delhi High Court’s order, the Central Board of Secondary Education on Sunday released plus 2 results following the five-point moderation policy, which has brought relief to students and parents.
The court had quashed the Board’s decision to do away with the moderation or grace marks policy, saying students who appeared for the exams in March did so with the knowledge that grace marks would continue.
School principals refused to comment on whether the continuation of moderation policy has helped them to get better results, but it is clear city schools have performed better than last year. In many schools, the toppers have scored between 486 and 492 marks out of 500 marks this year.
“Many students have scored centum in Chemistry and Computer Science subjects this year. In Computer Science, 12 of our students got full marks and in Maths two students got centum and Chemistry, Biology, Business studies we have got one centum each,” said S. Namasivayam, principal, Maharishi Vidya Mandir School.
The number of students securing above 90 per cent marks has increased in the school. “Despite tough papers in board exams, the students have performed well,” said Haribabu, associate principal of the school.
In SBOA School and Junior College, all the 301 students have cleared the exam with more than 60 per cent marks. “More than 85 per cent of our students secured marks above 75 per cent this year. Our school’s first mark has also increased from 486 to 490 marks,” said Radhika Unni, principal, SBOA School and Junior College.
From Chettinad Vidhyashram School, 611 students appeared for class 12 exams this year. “The performance is comparatively better than last year. Of 611 students, 471 students got distinction with above 375 marks (75 per cent) and 604 students have got above 300 marks this year,” said S. Amudha Lak-shmi, principal of the school. In Computer Science and Chemistry, six students scored centum and in Maths four students. In Biology, Business Maths and Economics students got 100 out of 100 marks in the school.
Modern Senior Secondary School in Nanganallur has recorded 100 per cent results with 180 students clearing the exams. Five students secured full marks in computer science, economics and business maths subjects.
In Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidhyashram school, seven students secured full marks in marketing and one scored centum in economics.
Visually challenged K’giri girl stands 3rd in category
M.V. Dharshana from Nalanda International Public School in Krishnagiri, can only read her subject books through a magnifier lens. It was with the help of audio, video materials that she got national third rank in CBSE class 12 exams in the differently abled category. With 75 per cent hindrance in vision, she secured 483 marks out of 500 in her board exams. "I want to study B.Com and become an entrepreneur. I am also interested in music. I am also getting trained in Carnatic music and want to become a musician as well," said Dharshana. She has micro cornea in her right eye since birth and it's almost nil vision in that eye. On her left eye also she had cornea problem and only after surgery has partial vision been restored. "One should not feel down with disability. Whatever be the challenge one can overcome and be successful," she said.
