Chennai: Girl ends life along with friend after mom scolds her
Chennai: Two teenaged girls committed suicide by hanging themselves on both sides of a dupatta after the younger girl was scolded by her family for failing in SSLC and also speaking on mobile phone always.
The deceased were identified as S. Thilakavathi, 19, and her neighbour, K. Kalpana of Mettupalayam, near Red hills. The incident happened in the house of the elder girl on Thursday night.
Police said the mother of the 15-year old girl chided her daughter for failing in her tenth public examination this year and also for talking on Thilakavathi’s mobile phone with friends. That could have driven the friends to take the extreme step, police said.
They both stayed at Thilakavathi’s house on Thursday night. The next day when Sokammal, mother of Thilakavathi, knocked their bedroom door, there was no response. The door was broke open with help of neighbours and they found the two girls dead.
They had committed suicide by hanging themselves on a ceiling fan on two sides of a dupatta. Red Hills police rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to the government hospital for autopsy.
Kalpana also has a younger brother, who is mentally challenged, while her father Kumar is separated from the family. Thilakavathy had completed her plus-2 and is survived by her mother and elder brother.
