TDB Erred on affidavit in hc, concedes president

The TDB said they will file a new affidavit after changing the one filed mentioning Ayyappa related to Dhanalaxmi Bond controversy.

Thiruvananthapuram: Travancore Devaswom Board president A. Padmakumar has conceded that the affidavit filed by the Board in the High Court stating that Lord Ayyappa had foreseen the floods and Supreme Court verdict as wrong. He said a fresh affidavit will be filed and action taken against the officials responsible.

The TDB said they will file a new affidavit after changing the one filed mentioning Ayyappa related to Dhanalaxmi Bond controversy. The affidavit submitted in the High Court had mentioned that it was Lord Ayyappa’s will that guided them to divert money from the provident fund of temple employees and purchase bonds from Dhanalaxmi Bank.

The board has come up with an explanation when it snowballed into a major controversy.

“It was wrong to file such an affidavit and action will be taken against employees for their act. A new affidavit will be filed in the court,” said Padmakumar.

He also said that the affidavit with mention of Lord Ayyappa shouldn’t have been filed in the court.

“The board is planning to file a new one. We will probe the situation which led to the filing of the affidavit. A decision will be taken after examining it,” he added.

He also maintained that he was not aware of the affidavit where Rs 150 crore was invested in the Dhanlaxmi bonds. But he feigned ignorance on how illogical statements had cropped in to the affidavit filed before the court.
