Hyderabad: Inter Board sacks small fry, imposes Rs 5,000 fine

The board later on identified the mistake and updated the marklist with the correct marks.

Hyderabad: In the first action taken against those responsible for the marks goof-up, the Board of Intermediate Education penalised two relatively junior staff on Sunday.

Examiner D. Umadevi and scrutiniser S. Vijay Kumar were removed from duty and the former was fined for Rs 5,000. They were held responsible for giving ‘00’ marks to an Intermediate final year student, Ms G. Navya, instead of the 99 that she had scored in her Telugu Paper II exam.

The board later on identified the mistake and updated the marklist with the correct marks.

During the result processing, the examiner is supposed to bubble the marks at the end of the correction in the OMR sheet and it was bubbled ‘00’ instead of 99 marks in the sheet.

TSBIE said, “As it’s a grave mistake, the board has taken strict action and has levied a fine of Rs 5,000 on the examiner as per the board rules and the scrutiniser, who is supposed to check the marking has failed in discharging his duties, hence he was suspended from the profession.”

Ms Umadevi, a Telugu lecturer, was later removed from service by Sri Narayana Junior College in Shamshabad, where she worked. Mr Vijay Kumar who works as a lecturer in the tribal welfare residential junior college in Balanagar, was suspended and an inquiry was ordered.
