Chennai: Light rain has drenched the parched Western Ghats, with Valparai recording 6.2mm on Friday. On the other hand, coastal districts continue to sport sultry weather and high temperatures as the sea breeze sets in late in the coast. The trough from South Madhya Maharashtra to Comorin area across Coastal Karnataka and interior Tamil Nadu extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persists, said a bulletin from the India Meteorological Department, to explain the rainfall activity at Valparai on Friday.

“At Nungambakkam, sea breeze has set in on Friday at 12 noon. The southern suburbs continue to burn as the sea breeze sets in only after 2 pm.The temperatures in the city are most likely to go to two degrees above normal in the next two to three days,” said weather blogger, Bhaskaran Shivaraman, forecasting that the temperature would come down in the first week of May.

According to the information from the Regional Meteorological Centre, the temperature in Chennai continues to hover around 38 degrees. While Nungambakkam station recorded the maximum temperature of 36.1 degrees Celsius, Meenambakkam stood at 37.8 degrees. Interior districts including Madurai, Thiruthani and Tirupathur are hovering around 40 degrees Celsius.
