Osmania University advised to work on 15-year plan
Hyderabad: Osmania University, has been advised by experts to focus on extensive research. Also, some 50 areas of research can be identified and funds pumped in for the same, the experts said. G. Satheesh Reddy, scientific adviser to the defence minister lamented about the level of research studies taking place in universities, including Osmania.
Even 95 per cent of the IIT students eyeing research studies go abroad rather than doing it here. This should change and students should be provided necessary infrastructure and facilities to do research here, he felt. Institutions like DRDO (Defence Research Developme-nt Organisation) will come forward to assist OU if it identified key areas of research, he said while speaking at a semin-ar on “OU Vision” here on Friday. Meanwhile, academics including VCs and former VCs and senior professors advised Osmania to work on a 15-year development plan and see the transformation.
OU needs to identify three or four departments which should be allotted more funds and human resources to transform them into centres of excellence, CCMB former director Ch. Mohan Rao said. Prof. V.S. Prasad. former director, NAAC (National Assesment and Accreditation Council), suggested that OU strive for the social transformation of Telangana with inclusive quality higher education.
