Telangana: Website for GOs restored

The government came under fire from RTI activists and the Opposition for blocking the website unilaterally.

Hyderabad: The TS government restored its GOs website (www.goir.telangana.gov.in) on Thursday after closing it down abruptly in February.

The government came under fire from RTI activists and the Opposition for blocking the website unilaterally. They termed it as suppression of information. A case was also filed in High Court challenging the government's decision.

The website has been functioning for over a decade and provided access to the various decisions taken by the government in the form of issuing GOs. However, the government blocked the website on February 10 without citing any reasons.

TPCC spokesperson Dasoju Sravan Kumar moved the High Court against the decision. The government told the court that it had halted the website temporarily since it had constituted a committee to frame guidelines department-wise on the issuance of GOs and it would be restored once the process ended.

Interestingly, no changes were made in the website and all the GOs were uploaded as usual from February 10 till date.

The government thought of imposing certain restrictions on uploading some GOs since certain decisions taken by it landed in legal tangles as some individuals and organisations challenged the GOs by taking printouts from the website.
