Karnataka Energy Minister: Normal power supply from tomorrow
Bengaluru: Energy Minister, D K Shivakumar assured on Thursday that power supply in the city, which has been erratic over the last few days, would return to normal by April 30.
Speaking to reporters here, he said the power fluctuation in the city was caused by damage to power cables in two places, but they were being repaired.
The BWSSB had damaged a 25 MW cable while digging in HAL, and
NIMHANS had damaged another 20 MW cable, affecting the supply of 45 MW of power, he explained. “ But the repairs should be done soon,” the energy minister added.
Maintaining that there was no dearth of power in the state, the minister said the demand for it had fallen from over 10300 MW to 9300 MW owing to the drought.. “With most of the borewells and rivers drying up, the demand for power from the agriculture sector is falling steadily,” he revealed.
However, with hydel power production also affected, the government has decided to purchase 1000 MW of power as a precaution. “If monsoon fails in June, we will have to buy power,” he admited
