Tourists flock to Munnar to beat the heat

Kottayam: While almost the entire state is experiencing a heatwave, domestic tourists are rushing to the hill station of Munnar.

The hospitality providers are getting many inquiries from various parts of Kerala for April.Munnar is attracting them temperature is low here day and night.

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature was 13 degree Celsius at night and 28 degrees Celcius in the day. According to the industry sources, the holidaymakers are waiting for summer closure of schools.

"We have received many inquiries from the beginning of April," Vinod Vattemattu, general manager of Clouds Valley hotel and vice-president of the Showcase Munnar, an association of the hoteliers, told DC.

"The inquiries are mostly from the Malabar and Thiruvananthapuram. Last year, the rush of the domestic tourists began after April 15."

He said that enquiries are also coming from Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore. Tour operators also said they were receiving a lot of calls.

R. Mohan, director of Trackfinders Adventures, said that they were receiving enquiries from all parts of the state.Senthil Kumar of Kestrel Adventures said they received many calls from northern and central Kerala.

The tourist rush to Munnar began after the opening of Eravikulam National Park on March 25 receiving 5,069 people on the day.
