Thiruvananthapuram: US says it’s keen on investing in IT
Thiruvananthapuram: US Ambassador Kenneth Ian Juster called on Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Thursday and discussed the possibilities of cooperation in IT and tourism sectors.
At the meeting with the Chief Minister at his secretariat office, Mr Juster said the US was keen on investing more in Kerala especially in the information technology sector and extending more cooperation in the tourism sector.
He sounded positive on the suggestions put forward by the Chief Minister for cooperation in business, health and technical sectors.
He lauded the steps taken by the state government in containing the Nipah virus, which had claimed 17 lives in the state last year and in tackling the devastating floods last August which claimed hundreds of lives and caused massive destruction.
Mr Vijayan sought technical cooperation of the US in setting up the River Basin Management Authority besides developing an effective system to predict natural disasters. The chief minister said the state was also interested in getting technical support for the ongoing post-flood rebuilding initiatives and for high level research.
The Ambassador was accompanied by US Consul General in Chennai Robert Burgess, the statement added.
