Sumalatha responsible, says Puttaraju

The minister said Sumalatha had spoke of the likelihood of the raid while addressing a road-side meeting in Mandya taluk recently.

Bengaluru: Soon after the Income Tax raids on the houses of Janata Dal (Secular) leaders, Minor Irrigation Minister C.S. Puttaraju accused Mandya Independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh, who is being backed by the BJP, of behind the raids since she had 'hinted' about it just three days ago.

The minister said Sumalatha had spoke of the likelihood of the raid while addressing a road-side meeting in Mandya taluk recently. Such tricks would not work as people of Mandya would definitely vote for the JD(S) candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, he said.

Reacting to the allegation, Sumalatha said she was an independent candidate and did not belong to any political party. She wondered how she would known about the IT raids adding that if the minister felt he could garner sympathy for the JD(S) candidate by citing the raids, he was mistaken.
