Nizamabad: After the withdrawal of nomination process ended on Thursday, 185 candidates are in the fray from Nizamabad parliamentary constituency.
Only four candidates had voluntarily withdrawn their nominations. Barring three major political party candidates, remaining contestants are farmers.
To register their protest in a novel way, farmers are firm about contesting along with major political party candidates.
Meanwhile, Nizamabad Parliamentary constituency returning officer and district collector M. Rammohan Rao allotted symbols to the contestants. In view of the highest numbers of contestants, Election Commission will use traditional ballot papers for polling on April 11 instead of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM).
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Rajender Reddy, a contesting farmer from Velpur, said that every villager should franchise their votes to independent candidates.
Farmers were contesting as independent candidates from majority of villages under Nizamabad constituency and locals may franchise their votes to local candidates only, he opined. “We are not against any person or party, we want to highlight our problems to the government”, he said.
However, the EC has specially concentrated on Nizamabad Parliamentary constituency due to its highest number of candidates.
Preparation of ballot papers, polling stations, polling agents and other process will be taken up with utmost care.
