Nellore: Central forces to guard sensitive polling booths

Model code of conduct is being implemented very strictly and 61 cases have been filed for violation of MCC.

Nellore: Police department has decided to deploy CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) to man the 533 critical polling locations during the ensuing elections in Nellore district.

In addition to this, one special striking force in every segment, two quick reaction teams in every mandal besides mobile forces are being deployed for 5 to 6 sectors in every mandal as part of security for the election.

Speaking to this newspaper, Superintendent of Police, Mr Ishwarya Rastogi said that second generation body worn cameras equipped with SIM cards are also being used to ensure evidence for taking action against those creating trouble.

According to the SP, there are 2830 polling stations in 1767 locations across the district and 533 amongst them have been identified as critical. Model code of conduct is being implemented very strictly and 61 cases have been filed for violation of MCC. Similarly Rs 1.01 crore cash, 1405.93 litres of liquor worth Rs 7.88 lakhs, Rs 40.76 lakhs worth of Gutka, 5180 sarees worth Rs 15.18 lakhs have been seized to prevent distribution of cash or gifts to the voters.

The teams also seized 60 bicycles, 3 cars, 5 autos, 3 lorries, two Volvo buses worth Rs 1.24 crore and 49 bikes for violation of model code. Ganja weighing 18 kgs worth Rs 47,000 was also seized apart from electronic goods and mobiles worth Rs 1 crore, two swords were also confiscated from a man from Tamil Nadu under unlicensed arms category.

The SP said that public can use c-vigil app to register complaints and they can call toll free numbers 100 or 0861-1950 for complaints and information on poll related matters.
