Kharge targets Cong deserters, declares he is ready for battle

“Till recently some people hailed me as Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and said there was no parallel to me in the field of development in the region\'\'.

Kalaburagi: Veteran Congress leader, Mallikarjun Kharge, who recently claimed that a conspiracy was afoot from “galli to Dilli” (street to Delhi) to defeat him these Lok Sabha elections, on Thursday came down hard on leaders, who had deserted the Congress and were now giving him “sleepless nights” from the opposition benches.

“Till recently some people hailed me as Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and said there was no parallel to me in the field of development in the region. But now they are questioning my contribution to it. I've always taken the conciliatory approach, but if the situation warrants a fight, I'm ready for it,” he declared, addressing a meeting of his party workers here. Recalling his role in Article 371(J) of the Constitution being passed by the Union government and the developmentl projects he was responsible for as minister in the UPA government, Mr Kharge said, " I categorically state that I have done more than any BJP MP from the region could even think of.

During my tenure as an MP I have not done anything to shame the people of the region either.” Targeting the PM , he said, “Wherever he goes, Mr Modi says only one thing : What good has the Congress done for the country in the last 70 years. But we have demonstrated our commitment to the upliftment of the downtrodden through schemes like MNREGA, Food for Security

Act and so on. And now we are determined to help at least 20 per cent of the families below the poverty line through the Nyoontama Aay Yojana, or NYAY. But look at the promises Mr Modi made. Has he brought back black money, put Rs 15 lakh in bank accounts of the poor or generated 10 crore jobs?”
