Kalpetta: Congress A-group resumes ‘campaign’ preparations

Moreover, reports on the possible candidature of Mr Gandhi, has taken the fizz out of the election campaign as poll managers are still confused.

Kalpetta: The delay in announcing the candidature of Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad Parliament constituency has put the Congress leadership in the constituency and state in a fix. A section of Congress workers have started protesting against the delay.

The A-group leadership in the district has started putting up flex boards and cutouts of Siddique, who was the candidate earlier, before he stepped down in favour of Rahul Gandhi. The campaign is on in full swing though Siddique is conspicuous by his absence.

Moreover, reports on the possible candidature of Mr Gandhi, has taken the fizz out of the election campaign as poll managers are still confused.

Even Congress leader Oommen Chandy who had announced the KPCC move to demand Rahul Gandhi to contest from the state, has backed out from the claims on Thursday.

Mr Chandy said that the KPCC joined the chorus when Congress leaderships of states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were approaching Rahul Gandhi to contest in a safe seat from their respective states, he said.

However, Congress leadership of Wayanad district is hopeful that Mr Gandhi will contest from Wayanad. DCC president I.C. Balakrishnan told reporters that the DCC still hopes that Mr Gandhi will announce his candidature at the last moment.

“If Rahul Gandhi is not coming it would affect the election results of entire state,” he said, adding that his absence in the contest in the state will drain the morale of workers.
