Idli rules: Thatte in Bengaluru, pepper fry in Kochi
Kochi: The steaming idlis have no competitors as far as Indians' breakfast preference is concerned. An online food ordering and delivery platform has found that it is the most ordered breakfast item across the country. However, Kochiites savour its variation 'idli pepper fry' the most, says a survey conducted by Uber Eats.
“The survey was held as part of the World Idli Day on March 30. The study found that Bengaluru, Mumbai and Chennai topped the list of cities that ordered idlis on the Uber Eats platform,” a Uber spokesperson said.
The orders were analysed for the last six months to arrive at the findings.
Most Indians requested for extra chutney, sambhar and the spicy 'podi' to go with a plate of hot idlis. Customers view idlis as a healthy, fibre-rich alternative that gives a nutritious start to their day.
“Idli was mostly consumed between 7.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. On March 10, 2019, India ordered the maximum number of idlis. A consumer in Mumbai ordered 110 plates of idlis on February 23,” the spokesperson said.
Just like chai and samosa go hand in hand, Indians love to gobble down idlis with fresh lime soda. Masala lassi and jal jeera weren't far behind.
While 'thatte idli' was most favoured in Bengaluru, Chennai citizens preferred 'rice idli' and Hyderabad 'masala fried idli.'
