Hyderabad: Harish Rao asks Rahul Gandhi to apologise for slogan

Alleging that the Congress was trying to cheat the people once again by using the same slogan.

Hyderabad: Former minister and TRS MLA T. Harish Rao on Thursday demanded that Congress chief Rahul Gandhi must apologise to the people for the party’s failure in eliminating poverty despite its ‘Garibi Hatao’ slogan.

Addressing a public meeting in Tellapur Township of the Patancheru Assembly segment, he said that then Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had fought the 1971 and 1989 elections respectively on the ‘Garibi Hatao’ slogan.

Alleging that the Congress was trying to cheat the people once again by using the same slogan, he said that before Mr Gandhi could ask the people to vote for him, he owed them an explanation for why his grandmother and father failed to eliminate poverty.

He said the Congress had done nothing for the country except sloganeering and appealed to the people not to vote for the BJP or the Congress as they had not delivered on their promises.
