Woman ignored for two hours after accident in Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: A 50-year-old woman lay unattended on the middle of a busy road at Kaddakkavur near here for about 20 minutes after being knocked down by a two-wheeler on Tuesday noon.
Neither the vehicles that went by, nor the other onlookers tried to help her, until a youth turned up. The insenstive attitude of the public came to light from the footage of a nearby CCTV camera.
The incident brought to mind the recent plight of a man who fell from the top of a building in Kochi and lay unattended until a woman advocate took the initiative.
Anchuthengu native Philomina, who is a fish vendor, was knocked down by a speeding two wheeler at around 12.30 pm on Tuesday near Kadakkavur railway over bridge. The motorcyclist riding triples sped away without stopping. Several vehicles, including buses and even government vehicles passed by. Instead of stopping, the vehicles took a deviation near the woman. Luckily, no vehicle ran over her.
Later, a local native, identified as Noufal, alerted the police and helped in taking her to hospital. She only suffered minor head injuries in the accident. The rider of the two-wheeler that knocked the woman down was also later held by the police. He was identified as Arun. He is a native of Varkala and is a college student.
Police honoured Noufal for volunteering in helping the lady. He was a photographer by profession and used to take pictures for police also.
