Hyderabad: Cancer-stricken man ends life

His wife left him, taking their son along. He then started living with his parents.

Hyderabad: A man diagnosed with cancer and abandoned by his wife allegedly committed suicide by hanging at his residence in Darussalam in Habeebnagar on Wednesday morning.

Police said Syed Mohammed Shah, 33, a former cabbie, was depressed and that could be the cause of the suicide. “He suffered an injury on his left leg in 2014 which led to an infection. This got worse after which he developed cancer in the injured area. Later, his wife is believed to have left him, taking their son along. He then started living with his parents,” Habeebnagar inspector Mr Madhukar said.

Mohammed Shah had had told his parents twice in the past about committing suicide and also attempted it once, police said. On Wednesday morning, he hanged himself in his room while his parents were asleep. No suicide note was found from the spot. A case was booked and the body was shifted for an autopsy and later handed over to the family.
