CHENNAI: The CBSE on Wednesday has announced re-examination in the Class 10 mathematics and Class 12 economics subjects in the wake of reports of the paper leak leaving students shocked as most of them had found class 10 maths question paper easy.
“The board has taken cognisance of certain happenings in the conduct of certain examinations as are being reported. With a view to upholding the sanctity of the board examinations and in the interest of fairness to the students, the board has decided to re-conduct the examinations,” the board said naming the two subjects.
A parent from Anna Nagar said, “We have booked tickets to go on vocation as our son scheduled to finish his board exams on Wednesday. Due to the announcement, now we have to cancel all our tickets.”
Another parent Hari whose daughter is studying class 10 at a school in Kilpauk said, “our daughter was preparing for the maths exam for last one week. After attending an easy paper she was confident of scoring full marks. Now she has to prepare again as someone has leaked the paper in the Delhi.”
A section of teachers is not sure whether the exam was cancelled for the entire country or Delhi region alone as the question paper was different for every region. But, CBSE sources confirmed that the exam was cancelled for the entire country.
Radhika Unni, Principal, SBOA School and Junior College, Anna Nagar said, “it will be tough on students as they got easy maths question paper after many years. We hoped for many centum this year. The cancellation of the exam has left many students and parents with disappointed.”
The CBSE schools in the city received many calls from parents seeking clarifications regarding the cancellation of exams.
According to some reports, the panic was triggered after the question paper of the Class 12 Economics examination was allegedly circulated on some WhatsApp groups a day before the paper. CBSE officials have lodged a complaint with Delhi Police regarding the leak of the economic question paper and a separate case registered for the alleged leak of class 10 maths paper.
Reacting to the question paper leak, Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters in New Delhi that a new leak-proof system would be put in place for conducting the board exams. Mr Javadekar said he has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and apprised him of the developments. He also said that the HRD ministry had initiated an internal probe.
