Re-postmortem of dalit man ordered
Chennai: The Madras high court has ordered re-postmortem on the body of a dalit man found dead in a well on March 19 in Erode district allegedly after an agitation against caste Hindus.
Passing orders on a petition from C. Balasubramanian, son of the deceased Chinnasamy, Justice R. Mala said, “Considering the circumstances, I am of the view that it is a fit case for ordering re-postmortem on the body of the petitioner’s father and the petitioner’s doctor is also directed to be part of the team. The team of doctors constituted by the Government medical college and hospital, Coimbatore, along with the petitioner’s doctor are directed to take the body of Chinnasamy from the cold storage and conduct re-postmortem and the same has to be video-graphed”.
After conducting re-postmortem, the body of Chinnasamy has to be handed over to the petitioner. For reporting compliance, posting the matter on April 4, the judge added. According to petitioner, after S. Krishan, a dalit was assaulted by Caste Hindus (Gounders) at Kizhakkupudhu colony on March 10, a case was registered by the police. But the police did not arrest anyone. Therefore, dalits in the area led by his father conducted agitation demanding the arrest of those involved in the brutal attack on Krishnan. As the agitation continued, a peace meeting was held in the office of the RDO.
