Crane crushes 2 girls in Hyderabad, one injured
Hyderabad: Two students were killed and their grandfather was seriously injured in an accident on Monday. The mishap occurred when Balaiah — driving with granddaughters Sneha and Harshitha on a bike — was hit by a crane from behind. The girls died on the spot.
Police said, M. Sneha, 12, and M. Harshitha, 8, residents of Rampally village, were students of Class VII and Class II at the Vignan High school in Rampally. Balaiah, 65, was dropping them to school and picking them up every day. The accident happened on Monday afternoon when they were returning from school. “A crane, which was towing a truck along the Rampally road hit the bike from behind. All three on the bike fell down,” said Keesara SI M. Anantha Chary. Both girls came under the crane and were run over by its rear tyres.
Balaiah suffered serious injuries and is undergoing treatment. But his condition is critical. A case of negligence causing death has been registered and cops have launched a manhunt to nab the crane’s driver, who is absconding.
