Hyderabad: Graffiti painted on Metro Rail station

Hyderabad: A graffiti showing a group of people with lathis beating a person who is down on his knees — the representation of an iconic picture of the Delhi riots — with the words “The End of F***ing Democracy” was painted on the wall of HiTec City Metro Rail on Friday morning.

Mr Indivar Jonnalagadda, a researcher on urban spaces, clicked a picture of the grafitti and posted it on Twitter. It got 392 retweets and around 800 likes. There were mixed reaction on social media as people blamed different communities and politicians for the clashes.

The detailed work on the graffiti showed that it took considerable time to paint it. “It is the job of a professional,” stated a Metro Rail official who got it scrubbed after it went viral on Twitter.

HiTec City Metro Rail station is a hub and sees a lot of footfall. The graffiti was seen by many but no one waited or took pictures. Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited managing director N.V.S. Reddy said, “We are checking the cameras to see who has done it. We will find out and take the necessary action.”

So far, the Metro Rail authorities have not registered a police complaint.
