One doesn't become anti-national by holding honest opinion: Chidambaram

If someone holds an honest opinion, he doesn't become an anti-national or that is not seditious, said Chidambaram.

New Delhi: Continuing the 'anti-national' debate, former finance minister P. Chidambaram on Monday said that if someone holds an honest opinion then he doesn't become an anti-national.

"If someone holds an honest opinion, he doesn't become an anti-national or that is not seditious. I was part of the government, how can I distance myself from the government's position?" Chidambaram told the media here while voicing his opinion on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) row.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police opposed the bail plea of JNU students' union president Kanhaiya Kumar arrested in a sedition case for allegedly raising anti-India slogans in the campus.

The police stated that Kanhaiya was part of the gathering on February 9 and was leading the protest.

The Delhi Police further said the video footage is just a corroborative evidence, adding there is more evidence against Kanhaiya to prove his offense.
