TRS leader's brother arrested

Sources said Ichoda circle inspector Satish and sub-inspector Harishekhar of Neredigonda had been suspended for disciplinary reasons.

Adilabad: Two police officers were allegedly suspended for supporting wood smugglers in the wake of the latest crackdown ordered by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Sources said Ichoda circle inspector Satish and sub-inspector Harishekhar of Neredigonda had been suspended for disciplinary reasons.

There were allegations that Mr Satish had spoken with Armed Reserve sub-inspector Shakeel who was recently suspended in connection with wood smuggling in Nizamabad.

When asked about his suspension Mr Satish denied that he had relations with wood smugglers. There have been allegations that some police officials have cooperated with wood smugglers after taking bribes. Now, with the Chief Minister having taken a strong view on the matter, police officials have been forced to take action on those facing allegations of being in cahoots with wood smugglers.

As part of the crackdown, Adilabad police had claimed that they arrested one Syed Majaruddin alias Mohasin, brother of a senior TRS leader, in his house on Monday.

Majaruddin was listed as accused No. 3. in a teakwood smuggling and was said to be absconding from June 24 but was arrested at his house in Shantinagar.

Adilabad police had seized huge quantity of teak logs, worth more than Rs 10 lakh, stocked in a secluded place at CCI Colony on the town outskirts on June 24.

Subsequently the value of the wood was reduced to reportedly save many people including political leaders. In the same case, the police had shown forest range officer Praveen Mahajan as accused and remanded him.
