Thiruvananthapuram Corporation opens She Lodge facility
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of its initiative to provide safe accommodation for women, the City Corporation has opened ‘She Lodge’- which aims at providing cost-effective stay for women and children arriving at the state capital- at Sreekanteswa-ram on Monday.
Mayor V.K. Prasanth said that the civic body has set aside Rs 4.75 crore for setting up She-Lodge at three spots in the state capital. He said that the facility will be a boon for women arriving in the state capital for interviews and for other short visits. Those who want to book the facility can use the link in the official website of Kudumbashree Mission. The rent for availing the facility has been fixed at Rs 250 per day and Rs 150 for two hours.
“A block in the premises of Sreekanteswaram Hostel was lying vacant. Hence we decided to convert it into a She-lodge facility. We are planning to extend the facility in the vacant land nearby. Around '75 lakh has been set aside for the purpose,” said Mayor.
The Corporation has also launched the construction work of two more She-lodges at Kazhakoottam and Attukal.
“The She-lodge at Kazhakootam will be coming up behind our zonal office and another one is being set up at Attukal ward. Rs 2 crores each has been set aside for the purpose. The facilities will become functional by next year,” Mayor added.
