Chennai:The Madras High Court on Monday directed the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council (TFPC) to furnish all details of the expenditure and contracts signed for the ‘Ilaiyaraaja 75’ show to honour the music composer here on February 2.
Justice Kalyanasundaram passed the order on a petition filed by producers J Sathish Kumar and Radhakrishnan, who sought interim stay on the show promoted as a tribute to Ilaiyaraaja for his contribution to the music field.
The petitioners also alleged “many irregularities” the TFPC after actor Vishal took charge as its president. They sought the court’s intervention in conducting the council’s general body meeting and its elections.
Counsel Sathish Kumar told the court that TFPC under Vishal had misappropriated funds up to '7 crore. It was also submitted the council had no right to give Ilaiyaraaja '3.5 crore and an equal sum to the event management company without approval of the general body. The petitioner also accused Vishal of not disclosing any document related to the funds available with the council.
Recording the petitioners’ statements, the judge sought to know why the event, ‘Ilaiyaraaja 75’, cannot be postponed by two weeks.
The TFPC counsel responded to this by stating that all arrangements have been made for the event and around 3,500 persons would be attending the spectacle. The defence lawyer also alleged that Sathish Kumar wished to derail the event and that their charges against Vishal were baseless.
The judge then raised the question why the TFPC cannot disclose the documents related to the event to the petitioners.
