Chennai: Teenager dies under wheels of minibu

Hamjath and Alia fell on the road and Alia came under the rear wheel of the bus and died on the spot while Hamjath escaped with minor injuries.

Chennai: A 13-year-old girl died after coming under the wheels of a government minibus near Pammal on Monday morning.

According to the police, 13 year old Aliya Begum, daughter of Hamjath, a businessman and a of Guruswamy Nagar in Anagaputhur, was riding pillion with her father on Monday morning because she had missed the school bus and her father decided to drop her to her school in Teynampet.

At around 7.30 am, when they were on Nallathambi Salai in Pammal, Hamjath was overtaking a government minibus when another two-wheeler came from the opposite direction and collided head-on with him. He lost control of the two-wheeler and skidded.

Hamjath and Alia fell on the road and Alia came under the rear wheel of the bus and died on the spot while Hamjath escaped with minor injuries.

Angry passersby pelted stones at the bus and held it up. The bus driver Arumugan, 50, of Thiruthaani, fled the spot and went himself to the Pallavaram police station to report the matter. Alia’s body was shifted to Chromepet Government Hospital for post-mortem. Chromepet traffic police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
