Bengaluru: Green Line gets first 6-coach train

The first coach will be reserved for women passengers and adding the six-coach train will help thousands of passengers during peak hours.

Bengaluru: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy flagged off first six-coach Metro on Green Line between Nagasandra and Yelachenahalli on Monday at Mantri Square Metro Station at Malleswaram. The first coach will be reserved for women passengers and adding the six-coach train will help thousands of passengers during peak hours. The additional three coaches can carry at least 1,000 passengers and prevents pushing and scrambling at the station and possible accidents

.On the death of an 18-month-old child, who slipped and fell to death at the Srirampuram Metro Station, Mr Kumaraswamy said there were lapses on the part of Metro. Ruing the death of the baby, he said that parents and caretakers should be careful with children at Metro stations. He said that he has directed Metro authorities to be alert and to ensure safety measures.This is the first Metro with six coaches running between Nagasandra and Yelachenahalli. Earlier, six-coach trains were introduced on East-West corridor between Byyappanahalli and Nayandahalli Metro stations. More six-coach trains will be introduced on Green Line. With this the carrying capacity of the Metro train doubles during every trip, BMRCL sources said.
