Supreme Court judge faults dynastic politics

Chelameswar: PM shouldn't have spoken of graft at Davos.

Vijayawada: Justice Jasti Chalameswar said here on Sunday that he had mentioned about his affiliation with a political party while signing the declaration form before taking oath as Supreme Court judge, without hiding anything.

He said that he had severed his ties with the political party. He was in the city to deliver a keynote address at a endowment lecture on Sunday.

Justice Chalameswar, who retires later this year, said he would settle down in Krishna district. He said he would not go to the government to seek any post-retirement job.

The judge criticised dynastic politics, and found fault with the then prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for talking about corruption in the country from an international platform like the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.

Justice Chalameswar said the spirit of the Indian Constitution was to achieve equality for all, whereas there were no such signs of an effort in that direction. He observed that money had become an important part of elections along with dynastic politics. Corruption had prevented the country from realising the spirit of the Constitution.
