Pulse-polio: 90.11 per cent kids covered across Karnataka

Bengaluru: The state recorded an impressive 90.11% immunisation coverage on the first day of the Pulse Polio drive. BBMP limits, however, recorded only 73.73% of the total estimated children below five years which is close to 5,47,335. Of the 6,37,495 children in Bengaluru Urban, 5,64,278 were immunised (88.51%), while in Bengaluru Rural 87.54% of the children were reported immunised (total 1,17,771). The highest in the state was recorded in Mandya district where 99.83% of children were immunised on the first day. The lowest was from within BBMP limits.

Approximately, 65 lakh children in the state are under the Health Department's radar for this year's polio vaccination programme. Some 32,437 booths have been set up for the drive and 51,972 teams have been deployed for effective immunisation. The state has also set up 941 mobile teams and 1,749 transit teams.

The health department deployed 1,03,944 vaccinators and 6,546 supervisors for the Sunday drive. The drive will again be carried out on March 11.
