CBSE: Students can raise grievances regarding questions

Complaints should be raised within 24 hours and will be looked into by an expert panel.

Bengaluru: Class 10 and 12 students appearing for this year's Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exams will be able to raise grievances related to questions within 24 hours after the exam.

The complaints filed will be scrutinised by an expert group and would then be considered while preparing the marking scheme during the evaluation.

Welcoming the decision the President of the Managements of Independent CBSE Schools Association (MICSA), M. Srinivasan, said the provision is an extension to the duties done by the exam superintendents and principals at various exam centres at the moment.

"Such officials were asked to report to the board in event of any grievances related to administration or conduction of the smooth functioning of the exams. The latest decision to enable students as well to bring issues related to questions set for the exam is a positive move," he said.

He added that the board should also make it clear to the stakeholders that all grievances would not automatically turn into moderations for respective papers.

Padma, a teacher at a city school opined that the board should consider such grievances in a democratic way and look into the issues in a transparent manner.

"Moderation should be done in a manner which is fair to both the sides - the student and the evaluator. However, the basic standard of evaluation to assess the students' ability and understanding of the subjects should not be compromised," she said.
