Chennai: Three persons were attacked by a leopard at Vaniyambadi in Vellore district on Thursday. They are undergoing treatment in government hospital. It has created panic among the public as the animal was last found straying in a sugarcane field.
According to forest officials, Alamelu residing in Nagaleri village falling under Chikkangankuppam panchayat near Vaniyambadi informed her sister Bharathi that she saw a leopard hiding in a bush near Nagaleri. Bharathi went near the bush to check it and all of a sudden, the leopard pounced on her and attacked her.
Alamelu came to her rescue, but the leopard did not spare her. As news spread like wildfire, villagers decided to trace the leopard and they went checking the bushes. The leopard again attacked Santhosh. The three severely injured people were undergoing treatment in Vaniyambadi government hospital.Later, villagers alerted the forest department.
The officials also enquired with locals and laid a trap for the leopard.
