KOZHIKODE: In a joint inspection conducted by the Excise Enforcement and Narcotic special squad and Railway police at Kozhikode railway station, 250 kg of banned tobacco products were seized. These banned products were brought to Kozhikode through parcel from Gujarat.

The officials said they are yet to get more details regarding the owners of the parcel and an investigation was started in order to track them. The excise officials also said that these banned tobacco products were worth Rs 2 lakh in the market. The joint inspection was conducted as part of the Christmas-New Year celebrations, which is when more such products and ganja flow into the state from other parts of the country.

The department has also conducted special drives in order to curb the transportation of these banned products through sea and hence using the boats from Beypore port inspections were carried out.

The inspection at the Kozhikode railway station was conducted on Thursday by excise and anti-narcotic special squad inspectors P. Sajithkumar, preventive officer K.V. Rasheed, civil excise officer Ajath, and RPF SI Nishanth.
