Children hit by type-1 diabetes to meet at Indian Medical Association at Kochi

Estimates show there are over 5,000 children affected with type 1 diabetes in the state.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A rare meeting of Sweet Stars, children affected with Type 1 diabetes, will be held at the Indian Medical Association Hall at Kochi on December 29.

The event is being organised by P. Kesavadev Trust in association with newly formed Kerala Type 1 Diabetes Welfare Society. Estimates show there are over 5,000 children affected with type 1 diabetes in the state.

This is the first ever meeting of Type 1 diabetes children and their parents from all over the state. The meeting has been planned close on the heels of the registration of Welfare Society.

The day long training programme will be led by Dr Jothydev Kesavadev and a team of experts. The programme is aimed at imparting training on the use of insulin, calculating the carb in the diet and calculating the dose of insulin accordingly, calculating the dose of insulin on an individual basis, calculating correction bolus, treating emergencies in type 1 diabetes, managing high and low sugar and the use of glucose meters and gadgets.
