APJ Abdul Kalam Tech varsity against milking' those failed
Thiruvananthapuram: The APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University has issued an order against charging exorbitant fee from students who failed in the examinations when they register for course repetition.
This was following complaints from the students’ organisations that institutions were charging exorbitant fee from such students. The order issued by J. Sreekumar, dean (Academics) said that it had come to the notice of the university that some of the colleges including government controlled self financing colleges were collecting tuition fee from the FE grade students for permitting them to attend the classes with the junior batches. It is also observed that insufficient number of senior faculty has affected the teaching-learning processes in the colleges. After considering the matter in detail, it is ordered that the institutions are not allowed to collect tuition fee from 'FE" grade students unless they strictly follow the mandatory AICTE faculty student ratio (1:20), and the cadre ratio (1:2:6) , in their institutions.
In another order issued by the university on the basis of a decision by the syndicate, it fixed norms for disposing valued answers scripts retained at the valuation camps situated at various affiliated colleges after valuation.
The valued answer scripts will be retained in the valuation camps for 180 days from the date of publication of the result.
The valued answer scripts will be disposed off from the Valuation Camps itself by inviting tender and quotation for each district. It will be ensured that the valued answer scripts are shredded prior to its disposal.
Accordingly the principals, camp officers or camp coordinators of the CV Camps were directed to ensure that valued answer scripts are disposed off on completing 180 days after the publication of the results of that examination, after ensuring that no cases related to valuation, re-valuation scrutiny or photocopy are pending and strictly in accordance with the resolution by the Syndicate.
District-wise tender and quotation will be invited by the University every year for disposal of the valued answer scripts kept at the valuation camps.
