Thirty sixth Cochin flower show to start from Friday

50,000 species of flowering plants to be exhibited.

Kochi: The 36th Cochin flower show organised by the Ernakulam Agri-Horticulture society will begin from Friday and will be on till January 7. The highlight of the flower show, to be held at Erankulathappan ground, will be a special dry garden with imported cut-flower varieties and exotic stones. Orchids from Thailand and the carnivorous pitcher plant are the other major attractions.

More than 50,000 species of flowering plants will be exhibited in the show, including many rare foreign species. Exotic varieties of roses and rare plants like adenium, dahlia, gerbera, petunia and salvia will be displayed. Minister A.C Moideen will inaugurate the show. Mayor Soumini Jain, K.V Thomas MP, Hibi Eden MLA and district collector Muhammad Y Safirulla will also attend the inaugural function.

Agencies like the Agriculture Department, Horticulture Mission, Coconut Development Board, Spices Board, Kerafed, Cochin Shipyard, Infopark are also part of the event. The Agriculture department is organizing an agri clinic which will provide guidelines for those who want to set up gardens at homes. More than 25 nurseries from across the state will have stalls to sell saplings of flowering plants and fruit plants.
