Hyderabad: Pharmacists protest over recruitment in government hospitals
Hyderabad: Clinical pharmacists are demanding creating posts for them in government hospitals as per the patient ratio. They are protesting against the government for not recognising them as key healthcare providers.
The pharmacists are important in providing drug information, treating basic illness, creating public awareness and also engaging in the administration of preventive health and immunisation programmes. The Doctor of Pharmacy Association held protests at various places, demanding recruitment of clinical pharmacists in the government sector.
Dr Sai Kumar Katam, national president of DPA, said, “India accounts for a whopping 5.2 million injuries annually with medication errors and adverse drug reactions. The need of the hour is to detect and manage adverse drug reactions, assist physicians in individualising the drug dosage regimen.”
