Districts bordering Andhra Pradesh on alert
HYDERABAD: Special police teams have been formed in Telangana districts to prevent cockfights. Each team headed by a sub-inspector will monitor villages with a history of such events.
Districts sharing borders with AP have been asked to be on the alert. “The problem is more acute in villages bordering AP, following reports of roosters being sold there.
The police headquarters asked the superintendents of police of the districts to be on alert and prevent any such event. “All those involved in previous cases are being called to local police stations or divisional offices. A Special Task Force team has been constituted to check cockfights or related activities,” said Khammam commissioner of police Tafseer Iqbal.
The police is likely to set up border check posts. Entry of people from adjoining states into TS to organise such events would be checked.
Activists said there were several laws to prevent animal cruelty. All states, including Odisha and Chhattisgarh, would have to check for any violation.
