Central team to visit Alappuzha, Malappuram

The fishing sector suffered a loss of Rs 1.5 crore and agriculture suffered a loss of Rs 1.77 crore.

Alappuzha: The Central team which is visiting the state to take stock of situation in the coastal belt after cyclone ‘Ockhi’, will visit Alappuzha and Malappuram. The team comprises National Disaster Management wing additional secretary Bipin Mallik and fisheries department assistant commissioner Sanjay Pande, will visit Ambalappuzha, Karthikapally and Cherthala taluks on Thursday.

A team led by M.M Dakte, director of Ministry of Power also include R.P Singh, director of Ministry of Agriculture and Chandramani Rawat, director of Ministry of Shipping will visit Malappuram. The district administration has assessed the total damage of Rs 20 crore due to the cyclone. After the visit the team members will interact with political leaders, leader among fishermen and people. PWD minister G. Sudhakaran and District Collector T.V. Anupama will accompany the team.

A detailed report about the loss suffered by the cyclone will be submitted. The district administration has prepared a loss of Rs 30 crore due to the cyclone. The sea wall collapse in many parts of the district caused loss of around Rs 22 crore. The fishing sector suffered a loss of Rs 1.5 crore and agriculture suffered a loss of Rs 1.77 crore. Nine houses were fully destroyed and 194 houses partially destroyed in the sea attack.
