Woman's organs donated in Guntur

The family members of a brain dead woman donated her organs in the Guntur district on Wednesday.

Guntur: Organ donation of a woman is going to give new life to five patients. The family members of a brain dead woman donated her organs in the Guntur district on Wednesday.

A widow Mallela Bhulakshmi, 47, belonging to Kothaganeshunupadu village in Machavaram mandal of Guntur district suddenly fell in her house with high blood pressure on December 24 evening and went unconscious.

Her son M. Mahesh and other relatives immediately took her to Piduguralla where doctors, obs-erving the serious condition of the patient, suggested taking her to Guntur. The relatives brought her to Guntur where she was found ailing from Cerebro Vascular Accident and Massive Subarachnoid Hemorrhage. Her condition worsened as she went into coma and further shifted to NRI General Hospital at Mangalagiri for further treatment. The efforts of the doctors to treat her did not yield good results. Hence, Mahesh and daughters Anantha Lakshmi and Jhansi Rani, after discussing with their relatives, decided to donate the organs of their mother. They said that they lost their father 10 yea-rs ago and know the pain of losing a family member, hence they wanted to see their mother in others by donating her organs.

They informed their decision to Jeevandan officials who plunged into action to collect the organs and to shift to them to the needy persons. The doctors said that liver was donated to a patient at Ayush Hospital, Vijayawada, one kidney to a patient of NRI General Hospital and another kidney to Vijaya super-specialtyHospital, Vijayawada, and eyes to Dr Agarwal Eye Bank Guntur.
