Warmer days ahead in Hyderabad with shifting winds

The state was receiving the winds from the northwest; the northeasterlies, are now prevailing over the state.

Hyderabad: The change in the wind direction is causing warm days in the city.
The day temperatures at about 32ºC are above normal. This condition is likely to remain until end of December. Earlier in the month, the state was receiving the winds from the northwest; the northeasterlies, are now prevailing over the state.

For three days, the city has been recording a minimum temperature of 12ºC plus, which is the norm for this time of the year. Starting Sunday the night temperature saw an increase. It was 11.4ºC on Sunday, 12.4ºC on Monday and 13.9ºC on Tuesday. The day temperature is rising too; the normal maximum for December is 28ºC, and the mercury is hovering at least 4ºC above that mark.

Director of the Indian Meteorological Department-Hyderabad Y.K. Reddy explained, “Earlier this month, winds from northwest were predominant over the state. Over the last three days the direction has changed to the northeast, which does not support cooling.” He said the winds from the northwest are cool and dry, and cause temperatures to drop.

The days and nights have become warmer with the northeasterlies. This condition would prevail for a couple of days he said. The minimum temperature might drop below normal, if there is a disturbance in the wind flow.

The local bureau has predicted dry weather for the state till the end of the month.
On Tuesday, there was an appreciable fall in minimum temperatures at some places.
