Telangana government introduces bike ambulance for small lanes

The government has carried out a pilot project in a village where bikes were used to cater to the patients.

Hyderabad: Health minister Laxma Reddy said that the government has introduced bike ambulances as they found that manoeuvring a traditional ambulance in small lanes of the city is difficult.

“In many instances, we found that four-wheelers are not able to cater to the patients who are living in small lanes. In such cases, the attendants had to get the patient to the ambulance. To ensure that there is proper first aid and also emergency care available, the bike ambulances are being started,” the minister said.

The government has carried out a pilot project in a village where bikes were used to cater to the patients and the results have been satisfactory.

A senior health officer explained, “The bike ambulance will have two people and they will first visit the patient’s home and if it is found that hospitalisation is important than the patient will be kept on the bike and transported to the nearest hospital.”
