Osmania University affiliated colleges allege discrimination
Hyderabad: Students from colleges affiliated to Osmania University College of Science allege that they were being discriminated against. Students pursuing MSc in chemistry and biotechnology in the university college were never detained, while they were being subjected to strict evaluation and detained if they had more than five backlogs.
Ms Ramya Krishna, a student of MSc II at St Pious College, said, “I failed in two subjects in the first semester and three in the second. I was lucky enough to get into the second year but some friends were detained.”
Ms Ayesha Fatima, her friend, said, “I failed in six subjects and I lost an academic year.”
A student of OU’s College of Science said, “If any student is detained in the university, there might be serious repercussions as the student unions are very powerful in OU."
University officials denied any discrimination. OU Science College dean V. Uma said, “Students who get seats in the university college are toppers. Their evaluation is done anonymously. Every paper is corrected twice by the examiners, but still the affiliated college students blame us for their poor performance.”
